Soybean oil is generally processed by pressing (oil press) and other methods to obtain crude oil with more impurities, and then refined to obtain edible refined oil. The oil content of soybeans is 15%-26%, and the oil yield is about 12%-18% according to the quality of soybeans in different places.

The pressing method is divided into two types: ordinary pressing method and screw pressing method. Ordinary pressing method is a method of directly pressing soybeans (commonly known as stupid pressing soybean oil). This method is not widely used, especially in large-scale industrial production. The screw press method is to install a screw shaft in the cylinder of the horizontal device. After the pretreated soybeans enter the screw press machine, the oil is squeezed out while advancing. This method can be used for continuous production, but during the oil extraction process, due to friction and heat, the protein changes to a large extent.
