Indonesia Fully Implements B50 Biodiesel Mandate Starting July 1; Global Palm Oil Supply Tightens, Orders For West African Refining Equipment Surge

Indonesia's mandatory B50 biodiesel policy officially took effect on July 1, 2026. Under the regulation, diesel fuel domestically sold must be blended with 50% palm oil-based biofuel, creating an additional annual domestic demand of 1.5 million metric tons for palm oil and drastically cutting the export volume of crude palm oil. Spot prices of international palm oil have maintained an upward trend as a result.

Major palm oil producing nations across West Africa including Nigeria, Cameroon and Ghana are speeding up local deep-processing capacity construction. Unlike before when they only purchased standalone oil presses, inquiries for integrated production lines combining pressing and batch refining have risen by 60% month-on-month. news-1222-917

Industry statistics show that shipments of small-scale refining equipment exported from China to West Africa in Q2 jumped 47% year-on-year. Local traditional primitive oil mills are carrying out large-scale technical renovations, with complete sets of equipment featuring 304 stainless steel construction and automatic temperature control becoming rigid market demand.

Industry insiders predict that purchasing demand for palm oil deep-processing equipment in Africa will keep booming from the second half of 2026 through 2027, with supporting equipment such as fractionation units and filtration systems also seeing growing market demand.
