Neem Oil

Neem is an arid area tree with many uses. It has been distributed or planted in more than 70 countries and is one of the most valuable multi-purpose tree species among tropical tree species. Azadirachtin extracted from neem seeds can be used to produce all-natural, pollution-free broad-spectrum biological pesticides. It is widely used to control pests in food, vegetables, forests, and economic crops. It has obvious effects on more than 200 kinds of pests. Repellent and insecticidal effects, and non-toxic to warm-blooded animals, no residue after use, no pollution to the environment, and the control objects are not easy to develop drug resistance. The content of azadirachtin in neem seeds reaches 0.3-0.6%, which is the best plant species found to manufacture high-efficiency biopesticides.

Neem oil is a yellow vegetable oil that is extracted from the fruit and flowers of neem. Botanically known as Neem, the neem tree is native to India and other parts of Asia and is widely known for its many medicinal properties. All parts of the neem tree are used medicinally because they contain azadirachtin, a powerful compound that gives neem antibacterial, antifungal, and antiparasitic properties. Even though neem oil is a vegetable oil, it is not safe for human consumption. Therefore, the oil cannot be used for cooking. The most common uses of this oil are in preparing cosmetic products such as soaps, hair care products, and body creams, treating fevers, acne, as an Ayurvedic remedy, formulating pesticides, and making mouthwash products. The herbal qualities of neem oil are essential to destroy viruses and bacteria, hence neem oil is widely used in formulating antiseptics.

The fruit oil content of the 7-year-old hybrid neem formed by crossing two parents of neem and neem by somatic cell fusion technology was measured, and the fatty acid composition of the seed oil was analyzed. The results showed that the oil content of the peel and pulp was low, respectively. 1.65% and 1.53%; the oil content of the seed kernel is relatively high, 39.20%. After the seed oil is extracted from the seed kernel, the methyl esterification treatment is carried out, and then GC-MS analysis is performed, and a total of 6 fatty acids are detected. They are linseed oil Acid (C18:2) 67.00%, oleic acid (C18:1) 18.03%, palmitic acid (C16:0) 8.96%, stearic acid (C18:0) 3.94%, arachidic acid (C20:0) 0.35% and Unknown fatty acid 1.72%; of which unsaturated fatty acid accounted for 85.03%. The oil content of hybrid neem seeds is 1.6 percentage points higher than that of neem.
