Refined Castor Oil
Refined Castor Oil
Castor oil was taken from castor seeds (about 50% oil). After shelled, the seed kernel contains nearly 70% oil and about 18% protein.
Summary
Castor oil is the triglyceride of fatty acids. Castor oil exists in the seeds of castor oil, and its content is 35%~57.%. " The castor oil is obtained by extraction or solvent extraction.
The fatty acid of castor oil contains 90% ricin acid (9 and 12 hydroxyoctaectic acid) j hydroxyl value is 163mgKOH / g, hydroxyl content is 4. 94%, the molecular weight of hydroxyl is 345, according to the hydroxyl group, castor oil contains 70% and 30% functionality, and the average functionality of hydroxyl group is 2.7. The polyurethane adhesive made from castor oil has good low temperature performance, hydrolysis resistance and excellent electrical insulation.
Castor oil characteristics
Ricinor oil contains a large amount of ricin acid (over 80%), so it has many unique properties:
1.Easy to dissolve in ethanol, but it is difficult to dissolve in petroleum ether. The existence of this characteristic more easily distinguishes castor oil from other oils.
2. The viscosity is much higher than that of general oil, is 680 CPS at 25, the viscosity index is 84, and the friction coefficient is very low (0.1). Castor oil has good fluidity, refined castor oil can still flow at-22, and-50 has no turbidity after cooling. It is the ideal lubricating oil and power belt for aviation and high-speed machinery.
3 There is strong photorotation because the asymmetric carbon atoms in its main fatty acid, ricinoic acid, are after the 12th position.
The dielectric constant is about 4.30, which is the highest among common oils
5. The relative density and acetyl value of castor oil are greater than the general oil.
6. Castor oil in the air, good storage stability, is a typical dry liquid oil. Castor oil is almost colorless or yellow clear sticky liquid; gas; light and slightly spicy. The product is easily soluble in ethanol and can be arbitrarily mixed with absolute ethanol or glacial acetic acid. The relative density should be from 0.956 to 0.969 at 25℃. The refraction shall be 1.478 to 1.480.
Castor oil is concentrated sulfuric acid to obtain good surface active sulfate ester (commonly known as Turkish red oil). Dehydration of castor oil can obtain a dry oil with a conjugated double bond. Processing castor oil with different hydrogenation conditions can obtain a variety of products, so castor oil is widely used in various industrial sectors. Castor oil is the closest to the pure compound triglyceride monoacid. In common oils, only olive oil (containing about 80% oleic acid), safflower oil (more than 70% linoleic acid) and tung oil (containing about 85% tung acid) have such characteristics.
Unsaponification in castor oil was less than 1%. Low vitamin content (about 0.05).
Castor oil seed has high oil content, due to the different uses of oil, the method of taking oil is different. Pharmaceutical castor oil is cold pressed with a hydraulic press, the temperature does not exceed 50, otherwise some impurities will dissolve into the oil and cannot be used for medicinal purposes. The oil obtained by cold press is called castor oil number 1. The cake is then crushed or leagain to make no. 3 castor oil (no. 2) for industrial use. The castor oil obtained by a screw oil press can only be used as industrial oil.
Scope of use
Castor oil and castor oil induction body are widely used in pharmaceuticals, cosmetics, lubricating oil, lubricants, metalworking oils, fiber oils, coatings, plastics, adhesives, plastics and other aspects.
